Pursuing CA after U.G or direct entry: Which is better?

There is a general perception that the CA professional degree is hard to earn. This raises a question among the CA aspirants whether to hold an alternative backup degree or not. Well, every choice has its own pros and cons:

Pros :

1. When you are a graduate, your mental ability to grasp concepts are better than a student who has just qualified his/her higher secondary examinations (Of course with exceptions :-))

2. The course structure provides exemption from appearing for the CA CPT foundation examinations.

3. If you find yourself not able to continue the course even after giving your best, you still have an option to opt out and land in a decent job with the qualification that you already have.

4. Last, but not the least you get to enjoy college life which is a very important phase in anyone’s life.

Cons:

1. Lost years. You lose three years which could have been utilised for studying CA and becoming a chartered accountant at the age of 21/22.

2. Also, you can start earning a handsome salary at an early stage of life if you had chosen the course after higher secondary examinations.

These are the pros and cons of U.G/Direct entry. However, it depends completely on the individual student what to opt for. Also, sometimes few factors depend on the family situation as well. If there is a situation, where your family is dependent solely on your income, i personally would suggest to complete U.G or have an alternative back up degree and then go ahead with doing CA.
