Preparation for both company law and taxation law , has to be followed with a similar approach. Company law is by far the best and interesting subject, but underrated as the most boring subject by students because of the theory content. Taxation laws is mostly practical and provision based and one of the best materials that can be used for both company law and taxation laws are Padhuka’s books by Shri Gurukripa’s institute of management and Handbook on taxation by T.N.Manoharan. Their books cover a variety of question patterns along with past year questions which are really helpful during preparation. Here are a few key points to remember while preparing for company law and taxation laws:
- It is easier to understand if you read every topic of the Act/provisions, with an example .
- Mark the keywords in your book while studying and try to memorize them.
- Since laws are a theory subject, it is preferable to write down the keywords and the side headings, so that it stays in your memory for long.
- In corporate laws, cover one Act at a time. Do not juggle between chapters for it will make you confuse the provisions .
- Always , start your preparation with the Act that has relatively lesser content than others. This way you can cover majority of the portions sooner.
- Make a separate note of the case laws and sections along with the gist of the case law. You do not have to remember ALL the case laws or sections. Just , try to remember important case laws and also section numbers. Make it a ritual to go through the case law and section notes everyday to ensure it does not disappear from your memory.
- Study and practice all the questions from the practice manual. This is really important. Give the highest priority to be thorough with all the questions in the practice manual since you can be assured a minimum of 20 to 30 marks with questions appearing in the same pattern as that of the practice manual.
- Practice and solve a minimum of 10 to 20 problems from each chapter in direct taxation and indirect taxation. This will help you in understanding the provisions better.
- Be up to date with amendments if any. Go through the recent amendments for both Corporate laws and taxation. It may or may not be tested in the examination. However, better to be safe than sorry.
