CA-Intermediate – Common Preparation Tips for all Subjects

  • Respect the subject : Do not take any topic for granted . Cover all the important topics as much as you can because you never know from which part of the syllabus the questions are asked.
  • Stick with one material: A very common mistake among students is to use multiple books for one subject. This unnecessarily is overwhelming and might also confuse because different authors use different approaches. For accountancy, it is best to stick with the institute’s study material . For practicing previous year questions , i would recommend Padhuka’s books which cover a lot of questions from the past years.
  • Health : This is the part which most of us miss ; taking care of our health. We are so engrossed in studying that we forget to devote time to our body and mind . Sleep well, eat well and stay fit and hydrated . Exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. It works wonders to your mind and body. There is no need to slog and study for 24 hours completely. It is more than enough if you chart out and plan your time for 10 to 12 hours per day(In case of students through CPT  entry and opting for self study). Be disciplined and consistent for those 12 hours (with regular breaks). That will help you to study well. If you are a direct entry students ,attending classes along with doing articleship, it is suggested you spend two hours everyday for self study at your end , apart from attending regular classes.
  • Group study : If you have a bunch of friends who are willing to do a combined study,it is a great move. It allows to brainstorm and creates combined efforts and outputs .
  • Early worm or night owl : Well, charting those 12 hours starting from morning or evening is completely the individual’s choice. You can choose whichever works for you. However , my personal recommendation is to study theory subjects in the morning when your mind is fresh and reserve the practical subjects for the afternoon, when you feel sleepy after a heavy lunch.
  • Early preparation :  If you are a direct entry student, it is advisable to start preparing for your inter preparation well in advance before joining articleship, since there is a huge uncertainty if you will be able to avail study leave as required by you.
  • Practice manual, RTP,Suggested answers: Last , but not the least, do not skip revising questions from the practice manual, RTP and the suggested answers. These are highly important and guarantee a minimum of 20 to 30 marks in each subject.
  • Revise : Try to complete your portions within a month before your examination, so that you can reserve the last month exclusively for revision.  Divide the number of days in the last month for each subject and keep revising till the day before the examination. It is highly important to complete the portions on time.

Happy Learning! 🙂
